LANDRUM—On Thursday, July 10, the City of Landrum’s interim Technical Review Committee met to discuss plans for several new projects, including a Waffle House and Zaxby’s restaurant, and a new building for Landrum Fire and Rescue.

The interim Technical Review Committee is in place after Landrum repealed its Board of Architectural Review on Tuesday.

The proposed Waffle House would be located at 120 Fairwinds Road on a .3 acre lot with 33 parking spaces. The building will be connected to existing sewer, water, and gas systems, and the landscaping will feature several glossy abelia shrubs and a maple tree, along with new grass and sod.

The interim Technical Review Committee will need to approve the building’s construction once the updated plans have been received.

The Zaxby’s, planned for 1820 Highway 14 E., will feature a drive-thru similar to other fast food restaurants. The entrances and exits were confirmed, and the brick exterior of the building will be paired with bright colors and various signage for easy identification. The parking lot will feature arrows for ease of traffic flow.

Landscaping will include various types of perennial trees and shrubbery, such as overcup oaks, magnolias, and willow oaks. The committee is still waiting to receive civil drawings and various permits before approval of construction is granted.

The new fire department facility is to be located at 300 N. Trade Ave., and will feature storage and training rooms for the local fire and rescue units. The building will be 30 feet by 60 feet, accompanied by three 12×12 roll-up doors for truck storage.

The storage space will hold overflow inventory, such as medical supplies and uniforms, and the training rooms will be used for various types of emergency exercises, including low-angle training and rapid extrication.

The building will also include a four-foot concrete wall surrounding it, along with a French drain to be located on the side of the building that faces North Shamrock Ave.. The committee approved the construction of the new building.

Construction of an Autozone by the KFC in Landrum was approved in February.
