Tryon Hounds celebrate Opening Hunt with annual tradition
TRYON—The Tryon Hounds have announced the opening of its 99th formal hunt season on Thanksgiving Day with the traditional Blessing of the Hounds.
Fox hunting has been part of the area’s culture for nearly one hundred years and is enjoyed by equestrian enthusiasts and community members who appreciate the sport and tradition. Father Robert Ard of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon will officiate at the Blessing of the Hounds. The medals and colors of St. Hubert, the Patron Saint of hunters, are traditionally presented at this event.
The Blessing of the Hounds is a day to celebrate the sport, the hounds, and the horses and to be thankful for the generosity of the landowners who make it possible. The community is invited to enjoy this historic event.
The Blessing of the Hounds will begin at 10 a.m. at Jenny and Alan Taylor’s Thanksgiving Farm, located at 2921 N. Pacolet Road in Landrum. Refreshments will be offered to all who attend.
