Are you living with diabetes or a caregiver for someone with diabetes? The Polk County Senior Center (Meeting Place) in partnership with the Polk County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering a free series of classes on Living Healthy with Diabetes beginning May 6 at 12:30 p.m.
The Living Healthy with Diabetes is a six-week educational program, which provides a unique experience for people living with diabetes or caregivers. Each week the class will be covering topics such as:
1) How to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration.
2) The importance of physical activity in reducing blood sugar.
3) What can I eat?
4) Appropriate use of medication
5) Working with your health care providers.
Participants attending the 6-week course will learn how to manage their diabetes, share experiences and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program. Free pedometers will be given to attendees who attend all 6 classes. Registration is required.
If you are interested in learning more about the Living Healthy with Diabetes or to sign up, please call the Senior Center at 828-894-0001 or Polk County Cooperative Extension Service at 828-894-8218.
