MILL SPRING—On Wednesday, February 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Guiding Reins and Brights Creek will host a day of restoration and recognition for local first responders who tirelessly serve our communities. The event will occur at the Brights Creek facility, located at 2222 Palmer Road in Mill Spring.
This unique experience will feature engaging activities to foster relaxation and creativity, providing a well-deserved break for first responders. Participants can look forward to guided art therapy sessions and equine-assisted activities with trained horses that promote healing through connection with these gentle animals.
“Somebody contacted us about first responders who have been dealing with the repercussions of Hurricane Helene,” said Guiding Reins Executive Director Diane Prewitt. “We asked what we can do. So we reached out to Brights Creek, and they donated the location. The rest fell into place, and we decided to do a day of equine and art therapy.”
Attendees will enjoy a catered lunch in their honor, offering an opportunity to unwind and connect with fellow service members in a peaceful and supportive environment. Organizers emphasize that no prior experience with art or horses is necessary.
“Half the attendees will spend time with the horses and then switch to art, where they will draw their experience with the horses,” said Prewitt. “The other half will begin by creating art about their expectations and then move on to work with the horses.
“The event recognizes first responders’ invaluable contributions and fosters community spirit and support. It’s a chance for those who serve to recharge and remind themselves of the importance of self-care.”
RSVP is required to ensure a tailored experience for all participants. Interested individuals can contact Prewitt at (864) 457-3575 or info@guidingreins.org.
