Saluda seeks funding for electric vehicle charging ports downtown

SALUDA—The City of Saluda last month announced that there has been movement on a resolution submitted last year for parking spaces for electric vehicles near the post office. 

Planning and zoning director Steven Orr said there is a Volkswagen Diesel Settlement Program that has provided funding to states for charging networks for personal vehicles. Orr reached out to the Land of the Sky Regional Council about how Saluda can proceed with funding. 

Orr also said he has been in contact with a company who will provide a pedestal and 2 charging ports that will comply with requirements. 

The city provided a request for proposals to the state program to request funding.
