Notes from a Community Chorus novice

I am enjoying our entire program, which includes familiar spirituals and Alfred Fedak’s “Gift of Music,” but the highlight, no doubt, will be “Carmina.” Given the fact that we are adding two grand pianos and a percussion ensemble from North Greenville University I am certain we will have the audience’s full attention.
Singing with the Community Chorus has been a lovely and enriching experience. We are truly blessed to live in an area where we have plenty of opportunities for social interaction. In the age of Facebook and Twitter, where one can be part of online communities without stepping foot into the real community, it is vital to have institutions like the Community Chorus. We meet with our neighbors and friends, old as well as new, while doing something that’s good for the soul: we sing. We sing well. And that’s good for the listener’s soul.
Won’t you be our neighbor and join us for our spring concert? We’d love to see you on Sunday, May 6 at 3 p.m. at Polk County High School. After the concert, feel free to stay for a chat. Who knows, maybe you’ll feel encouraged to become a chorus singer yourself or maybe you’ll start singing Latin in the shower. But one thing is clear: you will have a wonderful time.
