South Carolina governor Nikki Haley announced last week that she has appointed Robert Toomey of Columbia to lead the state department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, DAODAS.
Toomey was formerly the interim director of the Department of Health and Human Services, where he served from 1988 until 1994.
Currently he is on the board of Pavillon, a private not-for-profit alcohol and drug treatment center in Mill Spring.
“We are very fortunate to have this caliber of individuals on our board,” said CEO Anne Vance. “Bob’s recent appointment to state government is just another example of the kind of leadership we have at Pavillon.
“He genuinely understands the importance of improving the quality of addiction services, including the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.”
Toomey has served in state government roles for many years, including executive deputy commissioner and director of planning of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health from 1988 – 1993.
Pavillon is a non-profit substance abuse treatment center with a primary residential facility in Mill Spring as well as comprehensive outpatient services in Greenville, S.C.
