Inaugural event set for June 7
TRYON—The Tryon Fine Arts Center will host the inaugural Tryon Comic & Art Expo on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The one-day event will celebrate comic books, cartooning, sequential art, and cosplay.
Featuring an impressive lineup of special guests, the expo will showcase renowned artists and writers such as multimedia artist Ryan Oakley, Marvel & DC Comics writer Stephanie Williams, and former Wall Street Journal Art Director Kevin Sprouls.
Sprouls will be available for a book signing from 3 to 4 p.m, while Williams and Oakley will be onsite for the entire event..
Attendees will also have opportunities to meet numerous creators throughout the day, including Eraklis Petemasz, Christine Brunson, Jeremy Massie, Henry Eudy, Regis Perez, Lisa Peterson, John Burgin, Brandon Hendricks, Noah Ray, Matt Kund and many others who are passionate about comics and storytelling.
“We’re thrilled to have so many great comic creators visiting Tryon,” said organizer Storme Smith. “Comics and sequential art have influenced so many of us over the years, and are a great way to get kids interested in reading and keep adults reading as they get older.”
The expo will also offer three dynamic panels to engage participants:
- Podcasting 101 from 1 to 1:45 p.m., which will introduce budding creators to the world of podcasting.
- Self-Publishing Discussion from 2 to 2:45 p.m., where you can learn the ins and outs of bringing your own comic to life.
- How to Make Comics from 3 to 3:45 p.m., offering insights into the creative process behind comic creation.
“The panels are open to all attendees,” said Smith. “All three panels promise to be fun Q&A style discussions aimed to educate and encourage those interested in making their own podcasts and comics.”
The expo will also feature artist tables filled with stunning artwork and comic books, as well as a Gallery section filled with vendors selling classic comics. Additionally, a pre-expo party will be held on Friday evening, June 6, at Mirrorball Gallery. Participants are encouraged to join for a fun-filled weekend leading into the main event.
