Landrum High School has a record enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year with 556 students attending classes on the new Campobello campus.

Weve seen a very steady increase at Landrum High School over the past six years, said District One Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services and Operations Harrison Goodwin. Its been an every-year sort of thing. We predicted some growth when we built the new high school, but it may have outpaced what we predicted by a little bit.

Landrums 556 students is an increase of 29 from last year, even as numbers across the district remained steady. Enrollment across the District One is 5,103 students, which is just a few students less than its record total for 2009-10.

Landrum Middle School is up 10 students from last year at 263. O.P. Earle is down 17 students from early last year with an enrollment of 498.

Goodwin said the districts enrollment numbers are still fluctuating somewhat, but should become a little more concrete around December or about 135 days into the school year.

Landrum High has continued to grow thanks in part to the location of the six-year-old campus on Highway 176 between Landrum and Campobello.

The Landrum community in general has grown, but also more children at Campobello (Junior High) are choosing to go to Landrum, Goodwin said.

While Landrum has moved closer to the Campobello area, Chapman in Inman has moved a little further away with its new campus.

Goodwin also said that former home-schooled and private-school students have enrolled at LHS over the past couple of years.

I think because it is still a small campus, (LHS) is closer to what they were getting in the private-school sector, he said.
