On Thursday the Polk County Wolverines took on Landrum in womens soccer and came away with a 6-0 victory.
JV started the day off well for Polk showing Landrum some of its offensive firepower with Mckenna Calahan scoring all three goals and attaining a rare hat trick in a 3-1 victory.
Polks dominance over the Cardinals continued into the varsity game and lasted throughout.
As soon as the varsity game started, Polk put heavy pressure on Landrums defense with smooth passing that eventually lead to the first goal of the game, made by Jessica Antonio.
After this goal the ball hardly left Landrums defensive end with two more goals being scored by Polks Britt Phipps and Payton Hobinick. Polk had complete control heading into the second half with a 3-0 lead.
The second half went just as well for Polk with their offense scoring three more goals and their defense remaining solid, allowing scarcely a shot on goal.
The game ended in a rout with the Polk County Wolverines dominating from start to finish against their non-conference opponent.
These were impressive home wins for both the JV and varsity womens teams and will help build momentum as Polks varsity girls look to repeat as state champions.
Despite the loss, Landrum players showed that they never quit and they played hard until the clock hit all zeros, a positive sign for a new, developing program.
