A year-long celebration of Tryons 125th anniversary begins today, Thursday, March 11th.
The Tryon Downtown Development Association has asked area churches and other organizations to ring 125 strikes of their respective bells at noon as the inaugural event of Tryons quasquicentennial (125th) celebration.
The Town of Tryon was incorporated on March 11, 1885 by order of the General Assembly of North Carolina.
Since its founding, Tryon has been a destination point for a veritable Whos Who” of American luminaries in business, politics, the arts and sciences.
Throughout this upcoming year, TDDA plans to support and sponsor celebrations of this richly diverse cultural heritage and share the narratives of those individuals whose vision helped shape the community and its identity.
“All area organizations are invited to participate in recognizing this important civic landmark in Tryons history by designating one of their programs this year as a 125th anniversary event,” said Wanda May, chairman of the 125th celebration committee.
To register your organizations event, contact 125th Anniversary Celebration Committee Chair Wanda May at wandangeorgemay@aol.com or Crys Armbrust at carmbrust@windstream.net.
“We are inviting Tryon organizations to join us in the celebration and promotion of events that occur over the next twelve months,” May said. “One way to participate is to name one or two of your most important annual events as ‘a 125th Anniversary Event.'”
May said the Town of Tryon will produce a 4-color brochure that describes all the events taking place in 2010 that are an important part of life in Tryon. Each brochure will bear the 125th Logo.
“Please dont miss the chance to be included in this important project,” May said. Brochures will be distributed at local businesses and by events sponsors.
