Winter Storm Warning in effect beginning Friday morning

FOOTHILLS—On Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect From 7 a.m. Friday until 7 a.m. on Saturday.

The advisory states that heavy mixed precipitation is expected beginning Friday, with a wintry mix expected across the local area. Total snow and sleet accumulations between two and eight inches are possible, with ice accumulations around two-tenths of an inch.

From Friday morning through Saturday morning, Western North Carolina, the Upstate, the Piedmont, and portions of northeast Georgia will be affected.

The advisory states that snow and ice accumulations will make many roads treacherous and impassable. The weight of the snow and ice on tree limbs and power lines could produce scattered outages. The hazardous conditions could impact Friday morning and evening commutes.
