COLUMBUS– During the January 7 regular meeting of the Town of Columbus’s Board of Planning and Adjustment, members received plans for a new residential development, the Enchanted Construction Services subdivision.
The proposed development would be located at the intersection of Fox Mountain Road and Highway 108, behind the Milliken plant and adjacent to the upcoming YMCA facility.
The plans for the subdivision, developed by Enchanted Homes, consisted of lots for 74 potential homes. Enchanted Homes, based in Campobello, has established a reputation as a prominent builder in the Upstate since opening its South Carolina division in 2005. Under the ownership of Ryan Kaiser since 2007, the company says it is committed to delivering high-quality homes with attention to detail and unique designs.
ECS President Paul Aho has expressed the company’s eagerness to collaborate with the Town of Columbus and highlighted that it is a local company that has developed subdivisions in nearby areas such as Spartanburg, Pacolet, and Lyman. The Planning Board is awaiting further studies on sewer and water systems and environmental assessments before proceeding to the next steps in the approval process.
In addition to the subdivision proposal, Alan Toney of the Foothills Regional Commission presented the Planning Board with a slide show. Toney, a professional planner, explained the subdivision approval process and highlighted the role of the Planning Board and Town Council in overseeing development initiatives.
The Foothills Planning and Development Commission serves as the Council of Governments for the region, encompassing Cleveland, McDowell, Polk, and Rutherford counties in Western North Carolina. The organization supports local governments through collaboration, technical expertise, and community development programs.
Toney’s insights clarified the definition of a subdivision and outlined the necessary steps required for approval from inception to completion.
The specific plans for the subdivision can be found on the town’s website. The next Town of Columbus Planning Board meeting is scheduled for February 4 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 95 Walker St., where further discussions regarding the ECS Subdivision are anticipated.
