Tryon council, mayor event to be followed by Polk commissioners’ forum

POLK COUNTY—Two separate forums will be held in October, giving voters in the upcoming election the chance to hear from candidates running for mayor of Tryon, Tryon Town Council and the Polk County Board of Commissioners.

The first forum will take place at the Tryon Depot and will host candidates in the mayoral and town council races. The forum will occur on Monday, October 7, from 6 to 8 p.m, and is open to the general public.

Each candidate will be able to speak at the gathering for five minutes before the forum transitions into a town hall-style event. Audience members will read selected questions to the candidates, and are encouraged to write their questions down in advance.

Mayoral candidates Chrelle Booker, Doug Arbogast, and incumbent J. Alan Peoples have confirmed their attendance, along with four candidates for the town council. Tryon Depot is located at 22 Depot St.

On Tuesday, October 15, a County Commissioner Candidates Forum will take place at Polk County High School Auditorium. This event will occur at 7 p.m., and will be an opportunity for candidates running for the Polk County Board of Commissioners to state their cases to the electorate. This forum is a collaborative effort between Polk Rural Forever, Polk County Farm Bureau, Conserving Carolina, and Saluda Community Land Trust.

The nonpartisan public event aims to give residents a unique opportunity to hear directly from the candidates about their positions on local issues.

All six candidates running for county commissioner are expected to participate. For more information about the forum, organizers can be reached via email at polkruralforever@gmail.com.

Early voting will begin on Thursday, October 17.
