The exterior of the building was re-bricked, as the previous exterior had become cracked and damaged over the years. The work was done by Derrick Pack, owner of William D. Pack Masonry, and his crew, at an approximate cost of $8,500.

According to Chief Scott Hamby, the original brick that was used when the police department was built was no longer available but the workers were able to match the appearance to the original as closely as possible.

The staff of the Columbus Police Department were experiencing water leaks and hearing comments from the public about the appearance of the building.

“There have been many times when people would come in to talk and they would say, ‘You know your building is falling apart, right?’” Hamby said on Wednesday. “These guys did a fine job on reviving the exterior of our building and I hope people see it and send some work their way.”
