The repaving project will cover roughly a mile and a half of roads and is estimated to cost between $10,000 to $15,000.

City Manager Rich Caplan described the difficulties of working with the State of South Carolina on the project.

“South Carolina Department of Transportation has been real frustrating to work with because they haven’t been maintaining the roads,” says Caplan. “We will continue to talk to the DOT and anybody who will listen to see if we can get more funds, but it’s an uphill battle.”

The roads to receive maintenance include Dodd St. from Ashville Hwy. to N. Randolph Ave., Oak Ave. from Prince Rd. to N. Valley Rd., S. Bomar Ave. from E. Rutherford St. to E. Brookwood Dr. and E. Prince Rd. from E. Rutherford St. to Asbury Dr.

“I think everybody would agree the roads need work,” said Mayor Robert Briggs. “So that’s what we’re going to do, what we can.”

The motion to work on the roads passed unanimously. Prince Construction of Landrum will begin the repairs soon and work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
