Polk County’s COVID-19 cases rise to 10

POLK COUNTY—After going a week without another case of the Coronavirus, or COVID-19, Polk County officials announced an additional case Monday morning, bringing the total to 10.

The 10 cases rank Polk County as the 25th lowest in the state, with not many counties having less than 10 cases.

As of Monday morning, North Carolina had 6,764 laboratory-confirmed cases, with 179 deaths in the state, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

North Carolina has completed 79,484 tests, with 373 people currently hospitalized. Out of the state’s 100 total counties, there are cases in 93 of the counties, according to the NCDHHS.

The most cases are in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte area) at 1,210 as of Monday morning.

There have been 29 people in Mecklenburg County who have died as a result of the virus.

Henderson County has 128 cases and 9 deaths; Buncombe County has 45 cases and 3 deaths; Rutherford County has 84 cases and 2 deaths and Transylvania County has 8 cases and zero deaths.

There have been no reported deaths in Polk County from the virus.

As of Sunday afternoon, South Carolina had 4,377 positive cases and 120 deaths, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Of the total, Greenville County had 492 positive cases and 11 deaths and Spartanburg County had 213 positive cases and 5 deaths, according to the SCDHEC.

South Carolina offers cases, estimated cases and total possible cases by zip code. As of Sunday, the SCDHEC was reporting one reported case in the Landrum zip code of 29356.
