A Pickens county family has now experienced the loss of a loved animal. The Brown Family was at home late Thursday night when they heard two gunshots at a close distance. 

 

The Browns went outside and discovered their family draft mule, Gus, could not walk on his back leg. After checking him out, they came to the conclusion that Gus had most definitely been shot.

 

After being transported to the University of Georgia equine hospital, Gus passed away hours after the incident while under anesthesia. Brown shared that Gus was such a sweet mule and was a part of their family. 

 

Stephanie Brown shared with local news the only way anyone would know Gus was in the pasture is if they had been watching him for a while. For anyone to have seen him they had to come up to the pasture because it was late at night and Gus was an extremely dark colored mule. She went on to say the pasture where Gus was is pretty far off the road and that she now feels targeted because of the recent event. 

 

Brown believes that this attack could easily be a part of the recent horse attacks in Spartanburg and Greenville Counties. 

 

As of now, the attack is under investigation with the Pickens Animal Control center and those from the Pickens animal control center have made no comment on the event just yet. 

 

Brown is offering a reward for information leading to the capture of whomever is behind these crimes.
