Local Boy Scouts take home awards at summer camp

Boy Scout Troop 150 attended the Piedmont Council’s Camp “Time Travelers” during the summer. While at camp, the Scouts earned merit badges in programming, welding, shotgun shooting, leatherwork, nature, mammal study, chess, geocaching, fishing, small boat sailing, space exploration and citizenship of the world. At the end of the week, the troop was awarded an honor unit recognition. Scouts Jacob Pittman, Ruairidh Coull and Joe Nichols won first place in the cooking competition with a chicken and rice dish. Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Gerhard also won first place in the Scoutmaster Cobbler Cookoff with a chocolate, peanut butter and cherry cobbler.
