In a follow-up to “Reading with Rescue Horses,” the annual Lanier Library family program, a full house of all ages heard the story of Puddin’ Pie’s rescue and got to meet the 85-pound dwarf mini-horse in person. To the joy of all, the tiny sweet mare was the first equine in memory to graze the Lanier Library lawn.

Sara Lyter and Lisa Culberson, co-founders of Puddin’ Pie’s Place, a non-profit mini-horse shelter in Columbus, presented an overview of equine rescue in the U.S and then brought the situation close to home with the presentation of “Saving Puddin’ Pie” and the neglected herd of her little friends.

Amy Cashman, a local special ed teacher, also told of the remarkable results of giving the minis a new purpose through a horse and child reading program she thinks is “a special ed breakthrough.”
