Praise for Music in Landrum’s Upton Trio

To the editor:
I usually listen politely at concerts to music composed since I was born, and seldom really enjoy it. Music in Landrum, Sunday afternoon at Landrum Methodist Church, was refreshingly different . . . I really did enjoy all of the music making by the Upton Trio, and from the enthusiastic applause I heard (even at the end of each movement of the larger pieces), everyone else did too.
I talked with both Mary Lee Taylor Kinosian, composer and violin, and Billy Shepherd, piano, after their rousing performances (Dusan Vukajlovic, cello, was hiding somewhere, I guess). I praised Mr. Shepherd, not only for his sensitive playing, well balanced with the other players, but also for keeping the top up on that great Boston piano. My remarks included that most string chamber players prefer to have the lid of the piano not only down, but maybe someone sitting on it!
Thank you for traveling all those miles, Upton Trio, and playing your hearts out for us. Come back, won’t you?
