Good City Architects designing updates to sanctuary and lobby
Good City Architects, an architecture and interior design firm based in Greenville, S.C., has begun designing additions and renovations for Tryon Presbyterian Church. The project involves renovating the church sanctuary and enclosing an existing covered drive to create a much-needed lobby.
Organized in 1922, the church campus has been located on Harmon Field Road since the 1950s. The church sanctuary was donated by Frank McGregor in 1958 and designed by local architects Shannon Meriweather and Holland Brady. Its design included nautical references that honored McGregor’s sister, who died at sea en route to France while serving with the American Red Cross during World War I.
The new project is intended to preserve much of the original design. Good City’s design will simplify the platform to allow greater flexibility, update finishes and lighting and improve access for members and visitors.
“Our congregation is excited about the changes we’re making to our physical structure and look forward to following how God will use these updates to help us fulfill our mission of being and making disciples of Jesus Christ,” said Dr. Dent Davis, pastor.
The Church launched a capital campaign to pay for the project on June 5. Neither a contractor or start date for construction has been established.
