Barbara Thomas’ work will be on display through Aug. 29 at the Tryon Depot.

The Tryon Depot presents “Fiber, Fabric, and Light,” an entrancing exhibit featuring the work of Barbara McComb Thomas, July 1-Aug. 29. An opening reception will be held Friday, July 8 from 5-7 p.m. where you can meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments.

The exhibit is a synthesis of abstract dye paintings on silk, silk paint on linen and cotton, rice paper collage, and luminaries using rice paper collage. A few decorative items, such as silk evening bags and rice paper bowls will also be featured, but only during the opening reception.

Barbara studied Oriental brush painting for seven years and has been a graphic designer and interior designer for many years, both of which have influenced her work. Over the past 30 years, she has found inspiration in working with various fabrics, and found dyes and silk to be her favorite mediums. The style of her work is flowing, colorful, free-spirited, intuitive and emotional.
