Miss McGee’s second graders study life cycles

Published 10:00 pm Wednesday, June 3, 2015

The students in Miss McGee’s second grade class at Saluda Elementary School have been studying life cycles. They have had several classroom pets including praying mantises, butterflies and tadpoles, which are now frogs. In cooperative groups, students researched and designed 3D models of a life cycle of their choice. Students used recycled materials for the base of their life cycle models and plaster strips and paint for the top and are now writing reports to be presented to the class. This hands-on science project was made possible through a Polk County Community Foundation grant. Pictured are, from left to right, back row, Lauren McCullough, Grey Bateman, Katherine Ledford, Aidan Hrynyshyn, Aubry Pace, and Wyatt Vanderlois; and from left to right, front row, Mia Wolfe, Payten Fink, Piper Ed, Marissa Dean, Eliza Then and Ariana Wood.
