PCHS students raise $4,000 in leukemia, lymphoma fundraiser

From March 17-31, Polk County High School students and faculty decided to try to raise $1,000 for the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This charitable organization’s key priority is to help blood cancer patients live better, longer lives. They accomplish this through research and by providing support to blood cancer patients.

Starting with a school wide assembly featuring 10-year-old Brittany Hall, a student at Tryon Elementary and a leukemia survivor and her sister, Amber Hall, a ninth grader at PCHS, students and staff began bringing in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters, as well as larger amounts of money.

Several students gave over $100 of their own money made through hard work. HOSA members collected money daily from advocates, with PCHS meeting their goal in just two days.

On March 31, when the last penny was counted, Polk County High School had raised $4,000 in two weeks – four times their goal! When asked about the fundraiser, Mary Feagan, principal at PCHS, responded, “I’m very proud of our school for raising $4,000 in just two weeks’ time.  This fundraiser demonstrates what a caring student body and faculty we have at PCHS.”
