“Operation Medicine Drop” was conducted on Nov. 14 in the main lobby at Tryon Estates.
Lt. Brett Hooper and Sheriff Donald Hill of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department oversaw the collection of out of date or no longer used drugs from residents.
There were 10,409 prescription pills, liquids and over the counter medications collected. The items collected will all be incinerated. Another collection is being planned for next spring so Tryon Estates residents will have the convenience of disposing safely of drug items without having to take them to an off-campus location.
The event was coordinated by Tryon Estates Residents’ Association’s Maintenance, Safety, and Security Committee with the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.
