2013 Summer Reading Program at Polk County Public Library
Published 5:35 pm Monday, June 3, 2013
Come “Dig Into Reading” with the Polk County Public Library this summer!
Starting June 3, children of all ages can register for the 2013 Summer Reading Program and receive a reading log and book bag. Kids can then bring their reading logs in every week for a sticker and turn them in at the end of the summer to receive a prize. One lucky reader will also win the grand prize: a $50 gift certificate to The Book Shelf in Tryon.
There will be entertaining and educational children’s programs from June 18 through Aug. 6 at both the Columbus and Saluda libraries. Performances include juggling, magic, music, puppetry, balloon art and comedy. There will also be a movie night and hike to Pearson Falls. The wrap-up party will be a cook out at Harmon Field. Please note that pre-registration is required for the hike and cook out.
The first program will be June 18 at 6 p.m. at the library in Columbus. Show up early as seats are limited. Performer Paul Miller of Flow Circus takes us back to one memorable summer when his eccentric uncle comes to visit. Unlike any other adult Paul knows, his uncle opens up an exciting, new world of play through stories, books, juggling, magic and more. More importantly, he encourages Paul not just to copy what others are doing, but to dig deeper and explore his own unique interests and talents.
