Polk County will open the state 1A girls soccer playoffs on Monday at home against Thomasville.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released brackets Friday for the state playoffs. The Wolverines received the fifth seed in the 1A West field and will host 28th-seeded Thomasville at 5:30 p.m.
Thomasville finished 7-14 and were outscored 100-45 during the season. That includes an 8-0 loss to Salisbury on Tuesday in the Bulldogs’ final regular-season game.
Bishop McGuinness, Mountain Island Charter, Uwharrie Charter and Swain received the top four seeds in the 1A West field.
With a win Monday, Polk County (12-4-1) would face the winner of the match between 12th-seeded Christ The King and 21st-seeded South Stokes. That match would be played Thursday at Polk County.
