SALUDA—On Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 20th annual Saluda Arts Festival returns, showcasing over 90 talented artists and craftspeople on historic Main Street.
“Now more than ever, Western North Carolina craves beauty, connection, and inspiration,” says Missy Orr, festival co-chair. “The Saluda Arts Festival delivers it all. Experience vibrant art and heartfelt community in one unforgettable celebration.”
The festival will feature an array of booths highlighting paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, fiber arts, and more. The art is accentuated by live performances at Saluda’s amphitheater, featuring genres from contemporary folk to bluegrass. Young attendees can get creative at the Children’s Art Activity Tent, which is made possible by a grant from the Saluda Community Fund and the Polk County Community Foundation.
Musical performances will occur throughout the day on the Ella Grace Mintz stage in McCreery Park. Peter Eisenbrown is in charge of coordinating the music, which includes a variety of local talents.
The event schedule starts at 11 a.m. with the Mountain Song Community Chorus performing jazz classics from the Big Band era. Following that, from 1 to 2 p.m., a special presentation will honor Madame Phoebia Cheek Sullivan, a renowned divine healer and herbalist. This segment will also feature a performance by singer/songwriter Daryle Ryce. Finally, from 2 to 4 p.m., local favorites The Trophy Husbands will entertain the crowd.
Additionally, the Overmountain Old Time String Band will perform traditional Appalachian music at the Saluda Studios.
This year’s festival is not just about appreciating art; it is about supporting those who have faced adversity and helping revitalize a community after Helene devastated the region in September. By attending, purchasing art, and engaging with creators, visitors contribute to Saluda’s economic recovery and reaffirm the importance of creativity in our lives.
Many exhibiting artists are part of Preserving a Picturesque America, a nonprofit committed to using art to celebrate and protect America’s heritage.
“Even after the storm, beauty still rises,” says PAPA founder Scott Varn.
The festival will offer many family-friendly activities, including magic acts, balloon artistry, juggling performances, and face painting, made possible through the Saluda Community Fund. Festival-goers will also be able to enjoy fare from Saluda’s best restaurants.
This year’s festival introduces convenient event parking and a shuttle service for easy access to festival activities. Further parking is available at various local lots, and attendees are kindly reminded to respect the neighborhood by not blocking private streets or driveways.
