Polk County’s offense provided immediate support, scoring in each of the first three frames. Junie Mitchell’s two-out double in the first inning set the stage for Vitale’s RBI single to give the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage.

The visitors extended their lead with three runs in the second inning. After Tory Coile and Aslyn Scruggs delivered singles, Mia Bradley drove in a run with another single. Following a walk to Laney Littlefield, Mitchell connected for a two-run single to push the margin to 4-0.

Polk County added four more runs in the third. Elizabeth Vitale and Coile started the rally with back-to-back singles before Kinley Waters loaded the bases with a single of her own. Scruggs followed with an RBI single before Bradley delivered the inning’s big blow with a two-run double to extend the lead to 8-0.

Brevard scored three runs in the sixth inning, but could get no closer.

Coile finished with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored. Scruggs matched that performance, also going 4-for-4 while driving in a run and scoring twice. Bradley led the Wolverines with three RBI on her 2-for-5 day, while Mitchell added two RBI with her 2-for-5 performance. Sarah Vitale contributed a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI.

The Wolverines return to conference action Thursday, traveling to Hendersonville for a 6 p.m. contest.
