COLUMBUS—To Polk County’s volleyball champions came more spoils.
The two-time state champion Wolverines reunited at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Polk County Board of Education, held in the media center at Polk County High School. Coaches and players gathered to present medallions to each member of the board, thanking them for their support of the Polk volleyball program.
What Polk County’s players didn’t know was that a gift awaited them as well.
Head coach Molly Hill and Polk County Human Resources Director Todd Murphy presented each player with a small ring designed for everyday wear and celebrating Polk’s back-to-back state 1A titles. Each band was inscribed with the player’s first name.
Hill also presented a band to Polk County Principal Michelle Bean to thank her for her backing of the team and program. Board of Education Chairman Mike Ashworth then presented Hill and assistant coach Christen Smith with rings of their own.
Polk County won its second straight 1A championship in November, sweeping Perquimans in the state final at North Carolina State University. Players and coaches received rings in February to celebrate that triumph.
