GOLF: Cherryville notches 13-stroke win over Polk County

Polk County’s varsity golf team fell to Cherryville 164-177 in a nine-hole match Tuesday at Cherryville Country Club, dropping to 1-1 on the young season.

The Wolverines were led by Tourin Jackson, who carded a team-best 40. Piercen Edwards followed with a 44, while Brody Wilkins added a 45 and Myles Menetre rounded out the team’s counting scores with a 48.

Cherryville secured the victory behind exceptional performances from their top players. Colton Robinson earned medalist honors with a 35, followed closely by Blake Tedder’s 36. Peyton Huffman contributed a 42 and Caiden Bowman completed the Ironmen’s scoring with a 51.

Polk County showed continued depth beyond their scoring quartet. Gage Harden, who led the team in their season-opening win, finished with a 50. Addie Buss improved from Monday’s match with a 53, while Tallis Metcalf shot a 55. Tanner Osborn recorded a 56 and Aiden Billings posted a 57 to complete the Wolverines’ roster.

The Wolverines will look to bounce back on Thursday when they face Mountain Foothills 7 Conference schools at Tryon Country Club, marking their first conference competition of the season.
