This week, Governor-elect Josh Stein recently announced that he has launched the Rebuilding Western North Carolina Advisory Committee to help advise his work to address the communities affected by Hurricane Helene. The Committee comprises leaders of all types from across the region who are closely connected with their communities and well-positioned to provide counsel and strategic advice.
“Rebuilding western North Carolina will be a top priority for my administration,” said Stein. “I am grateful that this group of experts will give their time to make sure I know what’s needed to rebuild and recover the right way.”
Senator Kevin Corbin said he appreciated the opportunity to work for the much-needed recovery in the state.
“Our region has been damaged more severely than ever before, and this calls for a robust response from federal, state, and local private partners,” Corbin said. “This bipartisan effort is needed for maximum impact for our citizens and businesses. I thank Governor-elect Stein for including me in this process.”
The Rebuilding Western North Carolina Advisory Committee includes Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer, Senator Corbin of Macon County, N.C. House Rep. Jake Johnson, and Tryon Equestrian Partners President Sharon Decker, in addition to 20 other business leaders, healthcare professionals, school officials, and local government officials based in the western portion of the state.
