TRYON—Tryon Painters and Sculptors recently announced some changes to its board, as terms for some previous board members have come to an end and new ones have begun.  

Tryon Painters and Sculptors’ new President, Cornelia D. Scibetta, has served the TPS board as Secretary for the past two years. She retired in 2020 from a 45-year career in nursing, with her last position being at St. Luke’s Hospital as a Nursing Director. Cornelia is developing her expertise in art with drawing and painting as a student of local artists Becky Rickenbaker and Don Blackwell.

Denise Cwik continues as Vice President, after serving on the board for two years. Denise retired as an Executive Assistant with Ford Motor Company after 33 years of service. She is well organized and has worked with improving the TPS building and grounds as well as chairing its Classes/Workshop Committee. New Secretary Robert Kanaby retired as an educator and previously served on the TPS Board. The organization’s Treasurer, Carol Browning, has served the board for four years, bringing many years of experience as a Financial Analyst, and has been a major factor in establishing financial stability for the non-profit.

Other board members bring strong experiences in the arts, including Greg Wright, who retired from Georgia State University as an architectural planner, painter and member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross; Jeffery Dale, photographer and retired Senior Chief from the Coast Guard and Carol Funke, a fabric artist and well-traveled retired secretary.

TPS has also hired a third person, Ann Stimm, for part-time work in the Gallery and Gift Shop to assist Gallery Manager Kam Kammerer and Gift Shop Manager Barbara Thomas.

TPS board members and gallery/gift shop employees are grateful to the Polk County Community Foundation for their continued support and hope to continue to offer opportunities for appreciation of Fine Arts through education, exhibits and partnerships.
