Polk County’s volleyball squad will no doubt enjoy a r weekend of rest.

The Wolverines capped a busy week with a sweep Thursday of Patton, rolling past the Panthers 25-15, 25-5, 25-17 in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference home matchup.

The third match of the week for Polk County (15-1, 6-1) proved largely uneventful, the Wolverines controlling play throughout against the Panthers (3-12, 2-5).

The second set offered testament to Polk’s dominance, with Patton unable to string together back-to-back points.

“It was a long week and a mentally tough week,” said Polk County head coach Molly Hill. “But that was a great win. We were just talking about how in the second set, we sided out at 100 percent. So every time we lost the ball, we got it right back. That was huge. That doesn’t happen a lot.

“We were excited to get that done.”

Kylie Lewis continued her strong recent play and led Polk County with 12 kills. Sophia Overholt had 10 kills and six digs for the Wolverines, with Ada Kelley producing nine kills and 11 digs. Morgan Yoder had seven kills and seven digs, with Elena Carroll notching nine digs.

Zaelea Eller had 24 assists and Charley Dusenbury added 14.

Polk County is next on the court on Tuesday, traveling to Hendersonville. This week, which included a Tuesday loss at Brevard, marked Polk’s final three-match week of the regular season.

“We’re going to come in (Friday) and break down film and sit together and talk and get ready for next week,” Hill said.
