Before a recent meeting, the Polk County Board of Commissioners met with Manfred Walter, Coordinator for TubaChristmas in Polk County. The commissioners got into the holiday spirit with seasonal hats and a large tuba. The Board, and other organizations in the county, have helped support this traditional program.
Tuba Christmas is returning to the Polk County High School, Saturday, December 3rd at 1:30. This will be the 25th year that the concert will take place here in Polk County. The program was first presented in the Rockefeller Center Ice Rink in New York City 49 years ago and the program has since spread around the country, and overseas as well.
Dr. Stanley Howell brought the program with him to Polk County when the Howells moved to Tryon Estates and gathered players from the area. It has been an annual event ever since.
