The libraries will be closed December 23rd-25th for Christmas and December 31st-January 1st for New Year’s.
We are collecting donations for Polk County Senior Services’ Christmas Cheer on Wheels. They will deliver shoeboxes filled with gifts to Polk County’s homebound senior citizens. Donation bins are in the lobbies of Columbus and Saluda Library, and we will collect the following items through Saturday, December 11th (all gift items must be new/unopened):
-Shoeboxes
-Wrapping paper
-Washcloths and hand towels
-Gender neutral socks, scarves, and gloves
-Personal hygiene items (lotion, body wash, tissues, chapstick)
-Other miscellaneous small items such as games, puzzles, activity books, colored pencils, pens, snacks, hot chocolate packets, mugs, knickknacks, Christmas ornaments, etc.
-Christmas cards or notes of cheer
Access the Polk County Holiday Lights Map on our website starting December 3rd. This interactive driving map will display the addresses of homes and organizations that are lit up and decorated for the season.
Enjoy the StoryWalk® at Stearns Park in Columbus! We invite you to read, learn, and exercise at 18 stations while you walk around the park. This permanent exhibit is sponsored by PCPL and Polk County Parks & Recreation. A new book, Big Dance by Aoife Greenham, will be added to the StoryWalk® on December 1st!
The library will participate in two community Christmas events this year. Join Discover Columbus, the Town of Columbus, and other local organizations including PCPL for Hometown Christmas in Stearns Park, following the Columbus Christmas parade on December 4th at 4:30pm. Santa Claus will make an appearance, Ms. Amelia will present a special holiday storytime, and the community tree lighting will be at 5:30pm. The following weekend, stop by Saluda Library during the Saluda Hometown Christmas stroll on December 10th from 6-8pm for refreshments and photos with the Grinch!
During December, Saluda Library is featuring a series of silk wall hangings from local artist Lori Loftus. Stop by the library to see and purchase her artwork during regular business hours.
At Columbus Library, Conserving Carolina will have a “Signs of Life” conservation display in December with a variety of snake skins, insect casings, tree leaves, and feathers.
