Lake Lanier has huge turnout for 4th of July
LAKE LANIER—Maybe it was because of the pandemic relaxing, maybe it was because Columbus did their celebration on Saturday, but Lake Lanier was the place to be locally for the 4th of July on Sunday.
The lake was packed with homeowners and visitors all day and night with a parade that started at 2 p.m. with 21 boat entries, which was the most entries in many years.
The day ended with boathouses shooting fireworks for hours, with large shows in all 3 basins.
The parade included some boats who decorated with flags or red, white and blue banners and others that were elaborately decorated. Many residents also decorated their boathouses in honor of the day.
The winners for the boat parade this year were first place: the Jeff Carter family; second place: the Steve Kilpatrick family; third place: the Jeff Justice family and fourth place: the Wayne Rogers family.
Prizes are given to the winners and were provided this year by the Southside Smokehouse & BBQ, Hare and the Hound, Side Street Pizza and Iron Key Brewery.
