Polk cases rise to 8

No deaths so far in area

POLK COUNTY—Polk County’s Coronavirus cases rose to 8 over the weekend. 

County officials reported Monday morning that two more patients had tested positive over the weekend.

Polk County’s cases were at 6 last Friday evening. The first case was detected on Thursday, March 26. 

All the cases are presumptive confirmations until officially confirmed by the Center for Disease Control and no information on the identity of the persons or what township they live is being released. 

Polk County is only running tests when someone is symptomatic or a health provider asks the county to perform a test. 

As of Monday morning, North Carolina had 2,870 cases and 33 deaths across the state. Henderson County and Buncombe County now have one death each from the virus.  

There have been 40,726 tests performed in North Carolina, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Of the cases, 270 people are hospitalized and confirmed cases are in 89 of the state’s 100 counties. 

Rutherford County is reporting 17 cases, Henderson County is reporting 51 cases, Buncombe County is reporting 31 cases and Transylvania County is reporting 5 cases. 

The most in the state are in Mecklenburg County, which as of Monday morning had 733 cases confirmed. 

Polk County is doing a daily updated on the Coronavirus through its website and social media. County officials are having daily conference calls with local stakeholders and state officials. 

The county urges residents who want assistance information to call 211 or the county’s COVID-19 medical message line at 828-722-5086 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. 

Residents are always urged to call 911 for emergencies only and if calling 911, residents are asked to answer questions comprehensively about their symptoms and travel history.
