Duke Energy has pledged a contribution to an area food bank that will help provide hunger relief for K-12 students in Polk County.

In addition to a $3,000 contribution to Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry, Duke is providing $250,000 to Feeding the Carolinas, a network of food banks working to address hunger in North Carolina.

Among agencies selected for funds is Mountain Area Nutritional Needs Alliance (MANNA) Food Bank, which will receive $25,650. That money will be used for hunger relief efforts for K-12 students and their families by providing food boxes and other food distribution.

Other agencies receiving funds include:

• Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (Charlotte/Metrolina region) – $47,094
• Food Bank of the Albemarle (Elizabeth City/Northeast NC region) – $22,256
• Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast NC (Fayetteville/Southeast region) – $28,347
• Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (Raleigh/Triangle region) – $23,271
• Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC (Raleigh/Triangle region/Central-Coastal NC region) – $60,494
• Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC (Winston-Salem/Triad/Northwest NC region) – $42,898
