During the month of August 2018, the Saluda Police Department answered 61 calls for service.

There were eight arrests, including one driving while impaired, three for drugs, two for assault and two on warrants.

There were 20 state citations issued, seven city citations issued, one accident, one larceny, 10 welfare checks, six alarms, two open doors and 16 suspicious person/vehicles.

Officers patrolled a total of 3,251 miles and assisted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department, the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Saluda Fire Department.

Businesses and churches were checked every night and the department responded to one dead on arrival.
