Capt. Lowell Griffin said on Feb. 1, officers with the Polk County PACE (Polk Aggressive Criminal Enforcement) Team encounter a suspicious vehicle on Hwy. 108 east of Columbus. Officers approached the vehicle and made contact with the occupants after it had stopped at a convenience store in the area.

Officers became suspicious of the occupants due to their nervous and evasive behavior, Griffin said, and a Polk County Sheriff’s Office K9 was used to perform a sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of contraband.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to distribute methamphetamine as well as a handgun, Griffin said. The sheriff’s office determined the handgun was stolen out of Florida.

Ruvolo was being held at the Polk County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond as of late Friday, Feb. 2.

Ellis was being held in jail under a $22,000 secured bond as of late Friday.
