Landrum’s Drake Tabor (grabbing his opponent’s leg) is shown when the Cardinals’ took on Blue Ridge in the first part of their tri-meet at home on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Landrum head wrestling coach Josh Fowler has a core of veteran performers and some eager young talent.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, both segments of the Cardinals team wrestled well, but split the night with a thunderous win over High Point Academy, and a close loss to Blue Ridge, in a tri-meet at Landrum.

“We wrestled really well versus Blue Ridge,” Fowler remarked. “We wrestled really well versus High Point. We do have a young team.”

Fowler is fortunate in that his younger wrestlers learn fast.

Only this far into the season, Cardinals are 3-6, he said that the team is vastly better since the season began.

After scoring some early pins against Blue Ridge, the Cardinals couldn’t maintain that momentum, and fell 43-30.

Next, however, against High Point, the Cardinals mixed pins, technical falls, and a few forfeit wins, to dump High Point, 50-22. High Point also scored points via the forfeit win route.

Next varsity meet is Saturday, Dec. 16 at Liberty, with matches scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
