The first assignment for Landrum’s women in Wednesday’s Battle at the Border Shootout first round, was High Point Academy of Spartanburg. Out-shooting, out-rebounding and out-stealing their guests, the Cardinals jumped off to a 25-5 lead after one quarter, then padded their lead with a 30-2 third quarter, en route to an 83-28 win. Landrum’s next game is today, Dec. 29, against Spartanburg Christian Academy, at 11:30 a.m. Friday is the final day of the tournament.

“They are a young team,” remarked Cardinal head coach Deon Brice about High Point’s players. “They’re going to take their lumps.”

While the 10-0 Cardinals dominated the game, “We’ve got to clean it up, make better passes,” Brice observed. “I don’t look at the score so much. I look at the effort. The Cardinals played hard. They looked for each other.” Brice also described his players as “unselfish.”
