Two new stores have opened in the Shops of Tryon in downtown Tryon.

One, known as EquiTreasures, is a temporary pop-up store across from Vines n’ Stuff and will remain open until July 31. The other, Birdie’s Boutique, has opened in the back right of the space as people walk towards the former Kyoto restaurant.

Helen Ringus, from Sarasota, Fla., opened EquiTreasures a few weeks ago to sell the remaining inventory from her Wearable Art store in Florida. The store features equestrian-themed men’s, women’s and children’s clothing along with horse-themed knick-knacks.

“I’m liquidating the inventory and I’m going to then be moving down to where the Four Winds Florist was at the end of July,” Ringus explained. “I’ll be here on Trade Street in Tryon, even if it’s just for a few months there. EquiTreasures is equestrian gifts and jewelry, which I am also in retail and have been doing for 20 years.”

She said most of her items are below the cost of something one would find at a major retailer, ranging from scarves to purses, jewelry and antiques.

“I’m originally from Chicago but I then moved to New York, New Jersey, Florida and then here,” Ringus said. “But I’ve been here three months and I’m here to stay. The equestrian center initially brought me here and the fact that this is an equestrian area.”

The store will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Ringus said those who want to be notified of what is going on after she moves at the beginning of August should leave their email addresses with her.

In the back right space is the new Birdie’s Boutique shop, owned by Sussex, England native Jason Costick. Costick is an announcer at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Costick opened his store, which carries men and women’s fashion, following a conversation he had with one of the TIEC judges during lunch on Memorial Day this year. A walk down the streets of Tryon made him realize the need for a nice clothing store.

Dress shirts, polo shirts, women’s wear and heels can be bought at Birdie’s Boutique.

“I noticed here in Tryon that if you want some nice clothes, you have to drive to either Hendersonville, Greenville or Spartanburg,” Costick explained. “We carry all of the top brands from Ping to Jessica Simpson here and this store is built hopefully towards a younger generation, which I also see coming into Tryon.”

Costick said carrying top brands does not mean the clothes are more expensive, however.

“The items I carry here are anywhere from $9.99 for a shirt to $250 for that European leather jacket in the window display,” Costick said. “Also, each purchase comes with a dog necklace because Birdie is my dog and this is her store.” Birdie is a dachshund.

The store had a soft opening this month and Costick said a grand opening would be held on July 18 from 6-10 p.m., where he said he would have more items to choose from. Music and light refreshments will be served.

Birdie’s Boutique will be open in the Shops of Tryon on Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., noon to 9 p.m. on Fridays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
