The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Division of Highways erected two Historic Tryon signs Thursday afternoon in honor of Tryon’s recent commendation as a historic district by the National Park Service. One sign is seen here off of I-26 coming into Columbus and Tryon from the east and the second was put up on the opposite side of the roundabouts in Columbus at the base of the Saluda Grade. The historic district in Tryon stretches from 98 N. Trade St. to 55 S. Trade Street and includes the rotary clock tower plaza and the Nina Simone plaza. The commendation was received following the National Park Service’s December meeting. (Photo by Michael O’Hearn)
