Helen Heater celebrated her 100th birthday on Nov. 10 with a party at LaurelWoods in Columbus. There was a big crowd and everyone had a fun time. Helen wore a beautiful purple outfit and hat. Standing behind her is her niece, Barbara Belthoff. The singer, Dana Bergman, sang several numbers. In this photo they’re singing “When Irish Eyes are Smiling.” There was chocolate cake, a guy jumped out of another “cake” (a nicely decorated box), and the LaurelWoods staff and residents made merry with Helen. She topped it off with a can of beer, a gift from the staff.
Born in 1915, Helen was raised in New Brunswick, N.J. She graduated from St Peter’s Catholic High School. After graduation, Helen worked at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. She married Frank in 1937 and his job led them to live in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Florida. An avid golfer, Helen lived on the golf course often beating Frank at his own game. Helen has been a resident at LaurelWoods for 12 years.
