Polk sheriff’s office makes check fraud, ID theft arrest

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a man on check fraud and identity (ID) theft after making a traffic stop in Columbus.
The arrest occurred on May 19 when the sheriff’s office’s PACE (Polk Aggressive Criminal Enforcement) Team conducted a traffic stop and became suspicious of drug activity. Officers discovered a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle as well as material to produce checks and cancelled checks from various banks in multiple states, according to sheriff reports.
Fredrain Dewain Robinson, 36, was arrested and charged with check fraud, ID theft, destruction of evidence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resist, obstruct and delay of an officer, according to sheriff reports.
During the search of the vehicle, officers also found Robinson possessed multiple false identifications and paperwork indicating the cashing of fraudulent checks in multiple locations.
Robinson is out of jail on bond. The investigation continues with other agencies regarding the fraudulent checks, according to the sheriff’s office.
