District One trains at Milliken

During the day-long session, District One principals led a segment of the training by discussing the use of “school leadership teams” and how those teams are used to strengthen the programs and goals of the school.
Another major focus of the day centered around training on new “Common Core” academic standards that are being phased into the curriculum. Instructional coaches and school leadership teams worked with administrators to polish and refine plans for working with teachers in each school over the 2012-2013 school year on the common core standards implementation.
Dr. Ron Garner, superintendent of District One Schools, said he is confident the leadership training the district provides for administrators and instructional leaders is high quality.
“Our principals and instructional coaches work hard behind the scenes at every opportunity to continue to learn, grow, and define, and refine their skills as a leader,” Garner said. “The success of our District takes many people working together and it takes vision and leadership to make the team successful. I am so proud of the work they do to lead in their schools. I am especially proud that our folks took the lead on our training because they are some of the brightest and best in the country.
