Landrum police are searching for a man who robbed the First Citizens Bank and Trust Monday afternoon.

Around12:23 p.m. Monday, a black male with light skin, standing between 5 8 and 5 10 tall with a medium build, entered the bank through the front door and handed a clerk a note, according to Landrum Police Chief Bruce Shelnut. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and left through the back door, officials said.

According to reports, City of Landrum employees spotted the suspect in a late 1980s/early 1990s model Ford F250 pick up truck, green and silver with the back window broken out. The suspect reportedly jumped into the back of the truck, which also had a aluminum fifth wheel tailgate.

The suspect did not show a weapon while in the bank, Shelnut said. No one was injured.

The driver of the truck was described as a white male. The tag number of the truck ended in, 4EY, but witnesses did not identify the remainder of the tag or the state.

Police officers from Landrum and other area police departments were watching local banks yesterday.

The Landrum Police Department is investigating the robbery and the FBI is also involved. The Spartanburg County Sheriffs Office has also assisted.

Mondays robbery is the third robbery of the First Citizens Bank, located on North Trade Avenue downtown. The bank was robbed sometime in the early 1990s, with the suspect being caught later. Several years ago, the bank was robbed again, and no arrests have been made yet.

It was unknown as of yesterday whether the Landrum bank robbery was related to another robbery that occurred at the First Piedmont Federal Savings Bank in downtown Spartanburg, S.C., around 10 a.m. Monday, but authorities say they do not believe the two robberies were related. The suspect in that case was a white male, 45 to 50 years old, who was wearing a tie-dyed T-shirt, a hat and sunglasses and left in an older-model Toyota pickup truck. &bsp;
